Happy Hump Hump Hump Day peeps! (sorry i said hump that many times. my husband is out of town this entire week so i must just be missing him. ewwwwwwwww, sorry for that, haha! i’m mostly kidding. #grossshannonSTOP)
K, you may recall this post where I talked about how all I really wanted in life was a bright, white, airy living room. And that is still true – I LOVE me those beautiful neutrals.
However, we got a new couch fairly recently (which I talked about in this post) and it has really made me rethink this whole ‘white living room’ situation. Most of you are probably thinking ‘Ummm, DUH Shannon – we could have told you this was a bad idea right from the start.’ And many people did tell me that, cuz yeah, I get it – 3 year olds and white don’t really mix well. I just loved the look so much that I wanted to make it work real, real badly!
Then we got our couch from Custom Sofas 4 Less — which as an aside, if you are a Bay Area person reading my blog right now and you are in the market for a new sofa now or ever, you neeeeeeed to go visit Custom Sofas 4 Less. I’m being serious. CUSTOM, first of all, and secondly you literally cannot beat the prices (seriously go read this post for more about all that).
K anyway, we got our couch (which I need to post pictures of) and it’s this really pretty, very light gray color. And you guys – I have been a total freak about it. My husband thinks I’m crazy. I’m constantly worried about things getting on it, about Jack marking it up somehow, about it getting some permanent wrinkle or dent or something. Haha! Aka I need to buy a couch cover for it so that I can relax a little and then just whip that thing off when it counts.
Point being: it’s really made me re-think how we want to decorate this room.
Cuz the other thing I’m realizing is: for my blogging buds who have these beautiful, white and airy living rooms, it’s probably not the only room in their house where the whole family spends time. Meaning they probably have a family room as well and it’s their formal living room that is white as death. In our case however, we got that one room and that’s it. No other family rooms/play rooms/basement situations to scoot little stinky 3 year olds with messy baby hands and faces off to. Right?! Am I making sense?
So, my feeling now is: maybe we shoot for design that’s a little more kid-friendly (aka use a little more color and darker hues), and then do lots of pops of white to create that airy effect that I love so much.
Eh? Do we like this as a strategy? Tell me your thoughts.
And then feast your eyes on my latest living room inspiration. If you’re not following me on Pinterest you guys, you should be. I know I say that in the most annoyingly egotistical, shameless way all the time, but I’m being for real. I got good pins (haha!).
Anywho I’ve suddenly been super drawn to the looks you’re seeing above, largely because I’m about 2 seconds away from pulling the trigger on this rug. Do we loooove? I think I’m in love you guys.
Let me know your thoughts and input!
Please and thank youuuuuu!
